National Public Health Week

Celebrate National Public Health Week with IPHA! We have various sessions planned in partnership with Drake University as well as several opportunities for virtual engagement. See the schedule and summary of events below, and reach out to Sharon@IowaPHA.org or Haley@IowaPHA.org with any questions.

The Week's Itinerary:

Monday: Join us at Drake University in the Olmsted Center at 5 pm to discuss racism as a public health crisis. This open dialogue will be led by Dr. Jennifer Harvey, who has built many anti-racist conversations and is a distinguished author and educator, as well as occupational therapy professor, Dr. Jackson.
Tuesday: The Drake Counseling Center and Dr. Erin Ulrich, an associate professor in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, will be speaking to students on the topic of burnout and how to acknowledge and deal with this in the early parts of their career. Details and registration here.
Wednesday: Show us your community! Through the pandemic our lives were turned upside down, and our sense of community was one of the biggest things challenged during this time. We would love for you to send us a picture of what your community looks like and what it means to you! Whether it is your dog under your desk while you work, zoom family reunions, or your first trip since pre-pandemic, we’d love to see it – just tag us on your social media post!
Thursday: We will be partnering with Eat Greater DSM to speak about community fridges and food insecurity in Iowa. Stay tuned to find out what these fridges are, how they work, and the benefits of having them.
Friday: Keep an eye out for social media videos about the accessibility of the Drake campus space for individuals with disabilities – made in partnership with the Drake University Student Occupational Therapy Association.
