A Rich History, A Vibrant Future
In 1892, physicians from across Iowa convened the first meeting of the Iowa Public Health Association (IPHA). IPHA has continued this annual meeting and in 1925 was officially organized. The association is a nonprofit organization and received 501(c)3 tax status from the Internal Revenue Service in 1974.
IPHA is an Affiliate of the American Public Health Association and serves the continuum of Iowa's public health workforce (from pre-professionals to those actively practicing to those who are professionally inactive but still committed to supporting their profession). IPHA advocates for public health and supports the public health workforce by providing education, networking and leadership development opportunities.
Iowa's public health system and professionals face competing demands for time and resources. IPHA members achieve more collectively than they can individually.
IPHA is proud to be a charter member of the Public Health Alliance of Iowa.
